Alecs Schmidt Mickunas received his Master's of Library and Information Science from the University of Iowa in 2020. Alecs also serves on the board for Singing Cedars School in Fairfield. He previously served as Youth Services Librarian at Fairfield Public Library from 2020-2022. He is a member of the American Library Association, the Iowa Library Association, where he is a member of the Membership Committee, and a member of Beta Phi Mu International Library Science Honor Society.

Joy Craig received a B.A. in English from the University of Iowa. She previously served as the Front Desk Manager at FPL from 2017-2022. Prior to her work at the library, Joy worked as an educator at Singing Cedars School.    

Youth Services Librarian 

Sara Martindale

Sara Martindale is an enthusiastic reader and storyteller. She began her library career at the Ottumwa Public Library where she led a highly successful volunteer-led children's storytime program. Sara previously worked for Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Mahaska County as the County Youth 4-H Coordinator.

Afton Pedrick might be one of the noisiest librarians you come across. This might not be surprising as she received her Master’s in Library and Information Science from University of Illinois (where – in 2013, libraries as “community living rooms” was a major push at the time). With an undergraduate degree in Radio/TV and English from Bradley University, and a brief stint working for WCBU (an NPR-affiliate station), she was lucky enough to find a place where her exuberant love of people, reading, and silliness could all come together: the Fairfield Public Library’s Youth Services Department. Afton served as the Youth Services Librarian 2013-2020 and is thrilled to be back in action as Sara’s swell assistant in Youth Services.
