FOREIGN AFFAIRS ROUNDTABLE (8/26/21)
Thursday, August 26 1:30-3:30 PM
Two articles will be included in today's discussion. The first is The Taiwan Temptation: Why Beijing Might Resort to Force, a 9-page article by Oriana Skyler Mastro. Mastro is a Center Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University and a Senior Nonresident Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.
The second article up for discussion is Xi's Gamble: The Race to Consolidate Power and Stave Off Disaster, a 9-page article by Jude Blanchette. Blanchette is Freeman Chair in China Studies at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
Articles are chosen to provide significant background about a current international relations issue affecting American foreign policy. John Beghtol, former history teacher-of-the-year and member of the Academy of Political Science, serves as moderator. To ensure that everyone has time to contribute to the discussion, group size is limited to 10 people. Register for this free session by calling the front desk, and you will receive a free copy of the article.
The library can accommodate in-person attendance for up to 6 people in the Meeting Room, AND will also host this event via Zoom for those who prefer to attend remotely. Please note that the Meeting Room has its own separate air handler, and we have installed an Austin Air purifier in the room.
