Nature needs our help! Recent headlines about global insect declines and three billion fewer birds in North America are a bleak reality check about how ineffective our current conservation efforts have been at sustaining the plants and animals that sustain us. Fortunately there is much we can do to create landscapes that enhance local ecosystems rather than degrade them.
The Southeast Iowa Sierra Club, Jefferson County Conservation, Iowa Prairie Network, Leopold Landscape Alliance, the Nady Conservation Coalition, the Sustainable Living Coalition and the Fairfield Public Library are co-sponsoring a presentation entitled “The Grassroots Solution to the Biodiversity Crisis” with Mr. Doug Tallamy, T. A. Baker Professor of Agriculture in the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware.
