Interlibrary Loans

Is the book you want absent from our collection? We can reach out to other libraries and request it for you through Inter-Library Loan (ILL).

Jefferson County residents with an active FPL library card may request up to 5 ILL items at no cost to you.

In most cases, we will obtain requested books from other Iowa libraries by using a State-funded courier service. If necessary, we will contact libraries in other states. Given sufficient lead time, we can also obtain multiple copies of a title for your book club.

When your request has been received, we will notify you by email. After your item has arrived and is ready for checkout, we will contact you again. ILL requested within the state of Iowa typically takes 2 weeks to arrive in Fairfield, but may arrive sooner.
